Man that is a tough question. My process is usually to goof off in FruityLoops and lay down a couple of melodies and then go from there. Then I usually am watching something (news, video, etc.) and it (voice clip or whatever) really seems to tie into the track I'm writing. I extract a couple samples and fit them together and the whole track just turns into a living thing. That's why I have a hard time releasing them - I'm never sure when they are "finished."
